Roman Fever - Character Empathy

With which character do empathize the MOST: Mrs. Ansley or Mrs. Slade? Why? Try to convince others by presenting evidence from the text and arguing against others' claims. (Do this respectfully...) Post at least twice...with at least one or two in between your posts.

I empathize with Mrs. Slade because if I found out years later that my best friend slept with my husband and had a child that I didn't even know was my husbands I would be extremely mad. I think that she should have handled it differently than she did.

I sympathize with Mrs. Slade. Could you imagine? Her husband, so boring...ugh. I would want some fun. Ill write a love letter. A love letter to try an bait someone to have an affair with my soon-to-be new hubby. Wow, how fun! Yea, this story doesnt have much room to sympathize. But if I must choose one then Mrs. Slade is it because her best friend slept with Slades fiance!! Madness...yes I know. Feed me back.

I empathize with Mrs. Ansley. I empathize with her because she now has to tell her daughter who her true father is. She has to explain to her daughter after all these years. After her father had died. This would be a tuff spot to be in. Her daughter might hate her for the rest of her life. Mrs.Ansley should not have gotten in this situation. But She has a harder spot than Mrs. Slade. She could also not tell her daughter. But might face the problem of Mrs. Slade telling her. Then she would really be in trouble. This is why Mrs. Ansley has all of my empathy, because she has a really tuff decision.

I empathize with Mrs.Ansley because she now has to tell her daughter who her true father is. This is after he dies what a horrible time. Babs might be mad at her the rest of her life. Now i no this is just a story so ya.

Hey guys - I had you write a letter to Babs ASSUMING you would tell her about her father. Mrs. Ansley might not tell her...who knows? ALSO - shout out to Bill: I have several copies of Ironman. But thanks for being the blog police...;-)

I empathize with Mrs.Slade most because even though she wrote the letter I think the situation had more of a negative effect on her. If I had found out that my best friend had slept with my fiancee and didn't tell me about it I would be devestated. I think that this might have ruined their friendship more than when Mrs. Slade wrote the letter.

I empathize with Mrs.Slade. Even though she was the "darker" character, her actions were not as extreme as Mrs.Ansley's. So Slade wrote the letter, BIG DEAL. She only did it to stop her friend from cheating with her fiance. The fact that Ansley answered the letter, met Delphin, and got pregnant is way out of line.

I have empathy for Mrs. Slade. She has that boring daughter who has no life and dosen't have the energetic personality like
Bar-bear-a. All she wants is a daughter who dosen't sit in the corner of the room like a broken lamp shade. And then to find out that Grace got to have the kid from Delphin that is all that and a bad of doritos is just depressing. Plus Delphin died so that stinks too. Whereas Mrs. Ansley is just heartbroken over some fake lust she experienced with Delphin. I think Grace is a bit of a dog for sleeping with her best friends husband and deserves no empathy. Props to Delphin for his cheating abilities though.

I empathize with Mrs. Slade becuase her bestfriend slept with her husband..and did not tell her about it till years later. Yeah id be prett upset...like reallly upset! That was wrong for Mrs. Ansely to go behind her back and have a child with her fiance! That is just wrong. Yeah, i would forgive her, but deffinatly not forget!

I empathize more with Mrs. Slade even though she wrote the fake letter first. I am sure it is hard to hear years later after your husband has passed away that your best friend slept with him and had his child. She of course should not have written that letter but she was jealous and didn't anticipate anything to happen of it, except Mrs. Ansley getting a little sick. Even if Mrs. Ansley had a crush on Delphin she should not have acted on it because it was her best friend's fiancé.

i empathize with Mrs Slade more because all this time she had no idea her husband went to meet with Mrs Ansley. Also she just found out that when they met there right before Mrs Slade and Delphin's wedding that he and Mrs Ansley slept together and had a kid. i think that it would be very hard to find that out after never even thinking it was possible.

I empathize with Miss. Slade the most. I do believe it was a little scummy of her to write that letter but to find out all those years later that her letter was not only answered but acted upon by her husband. That had to be a massive kick in the face and hurt a lot since it now skews her memories of him as the faithful husband she thought him to be.

I empathize more with Mrs. Ansley because she now has to explain to her daughter that she is Delphin's daughter not Horace's. Also that Mrs. Ansley had to live with the fact that she had a child out of wedlock which was really bad back in those days. I also feel bad Delphin stayed with Mrs. Slade and didn't acknowledge Mrs. Ansley anymore. I think Mrs. Ansley married for security and not love. Also her best friend purposely sent her to get ill.

Miss Ansley didn't have to act on the letter. She could have controlled her actions so anything that happened it on her. She does not have to tell her daughter and I don't think Miss. Slade would tell because she has enough to deal with as it is. Also if Miss Ansley had been living with the knowledge of an illegitimate child for that many years I think she could have gone on a long time more without trouble.

I do feel bad that Mrs. Ansley might possibly have to tell her daughter, but mostly I feel bad for her daughter. It was her fault she acted on the letter. Many people in that exact same situation would not have met their best friend's fiancé at night and slept with him. She had to live with the fact that she had a child out of wed lock but i really think it was her choice in the first place and you have to deal with the consequences of the choices you make.

I really dont empathize either of them because they both did horrible things. But if I had to choose I would empathize Mrs. Ansley because now she has to tell her daughter who her true father is after lying to her for her whole life. Plus her memory of Delphin was built off a fake letter so for her entire life shes had a fake love for a man who really just wanted a booty call that night.

Unknown said...

I empathize with Mrs Slade because if I was, I would be devistated that my husband ad an affari and a child with another woman. I would be so angry and extremly hurt. I would be hurt that it even happened and then it was a secret kept from my for years.

Unknown said...

I would empathize with Mrs. Slade. I chose her because even though she did send the fake letter from Delphin to Mrs Ansley, Mrs. Ansley was supposed to be her best friend and she slept with Mrs. Slade soon to be husband. Friends are not supposed to do that to each other. It's Mrs. Ansley fault that her daughter doesnt know who her real father is. Maybe she shouldnt have tried to get on Delphin when he was with Mrs. Slade.

I empathize with Mrs. Slade because I think it would be awful to find out some one you thought was your friend was going behind your back with your fiancee. I don't blame her for writing the fake letter because she had to do something to get her out of the way. I also don't think Mrs. Ansley should have written back to the letter. She should have stayed true to her friend and ignored it.

Unknown said...

I don't think Mrs. Ansley should have responded to the letter either. She should have never wrote back. She knew that he was with Mrs. Slade and she was Mrs. Slade's friend. She should have respected Mrs. Slade enough to ignore the letter and not do anything about it. I feel bad for Mrs. Slade.

Unknown said...

I admit that having to explain to your daughter that the man she believed was her father really wasn't sucks. But it was her own fault for answering the letter and meeting Delphin. I agree with Corey. I think Mrs. Ansley has to live with the consequences of her own actions.

I have no idea how could someone could empathize with Mrs. Slade. She brought everything upon herself. If she hadn't have written that letter trying to make Mrs. Ansley sick, Mrs. Ansley would have never slept with Delphin. Also Mrs. Slade brought up the whole conversation it would have still been unknown to her but she wanted to boast about tricking Mrs. Ansley. When really she was the one who got tricked.

I feel for Slade. Are you telling me to feel for Ansley?? For get it. She is a hussie. I mean Slade was with Delphin Young #1 latino first and Ansley goes and sneaks around with him? Give me a break. I mean she would never have to bear her bull emotions with Barbara; alls she had to do was follow the rules and lay off unavailible men.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Sara and Haley. She shouldnt have responded to the letter. She knew that Delphin was engaged to Mrs. Slade and that was pretty low for her to go sneak around with him behind Mrs. Slade's back. Delphin Young #1 latino?

Unknown said...

Tyler I can understand what your getting at. But i think you are giving mrs. Slade i bit too much sympathy. I mean the lady is an old witch. And you cant tell me you havnt had the hots for unavailable men. You need to realize the thought process of Mr. Slade if Mrs slade was even a bit atractive he wouldnt have gone for Mrs ansley.

Anonymous said...

i dont feel for Mrs Ansley because if she never would have went to see the man that she knew was engaged to her best friend, she would not have to explain to her daughter who her real father is. I also agree she never should have responded to the letter. she shuld have just acted like it never even was writen because that is not something you should do to your best friend.

Come on Ryan! I dont feel one bit sorry for Ansley. Back in the old days a respectable man would have put her in a burlap sack, taken her to the courthouse stairs and beat her with reeds. She can't just sleep around with her friend's husband and expect to get away with it. She must pay...What was Delphin thinkin anyway? Ansley seems like she took a nose dive off the top of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

Unknown said...

I agree with Jenica on this one. Mrs Ansley was the one who got pregnant by another man's fiance, not Mrs. Slade. Writing a letter to make someone else feel better is not that terrible of a thing to do.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Bill, I don't feel sorry for Mrs. Ansley at all! What she did was wrong and Mrs. Slade didn't bring it upon herself. She was just trying to teach her friend a lesson. Even though I wouldn't even consider Mrs. Ansley a friend. She should have never done that. If Delphin really liked her he wouldn't of married Mrs. Slade after all. Mrs. Ansley was being selfish and a horrible friend.

Anonymous said...

Yeah i def. agree with Hayley! Mrs Ansely should of stayed loyal to her bestfriend. Mrs.slade was upset and wanted her gone which is why she wrote the letter...i would of done something similar to that! Mrs. Ansely had not business being with him. Once a cheater always a cheater!

Unknown said...

yea yall pretty much said slade. boo hoo she wrote a letter, big deal. her bff slept with her fiance!!! inexcusable. bill-absolutely, lets go get that tramp and take her in the burlap sack and beat her. bout time she learns her lesson.

Unknown said...

Mrs.slade was upset and wanted her gone which is why she wrote the letter. There is no reason for what she did. I cant figure out why everybody just cant get along. But i like Mrs. Ansley so ya.

I think I'm on Mrs. Slades side for sure. I would be very upset if I found out that my friend messed around with my fiance. And to find out that Barbera was actually Delphin's daughter, I would be livid! So Steve I'm not so sure I like Mrs. Ansley...
