Welcome!

Welcome 12 CP students! This blog will be a fun and exciting way for us to discuss, share, and communicate ideas. To start, let's discuss a favorite book of ours. Each student should post at least two comments in response to the topic and others' comments. Here we go...one of my favorite books is The Things They Carried. Ironically, the first time that I read it, I did not like it too much. I thought is was a "war book." But when I read it again, I fell in love with it because I realized that the war story was its secondary story. The book is really about life and how memories shape it...how memories shape our soul (or essence, as O'Brien calls it.) I loved how he described memories as fragments and how our memory of an event is more important than the event itself. It really spoke to me.

Well, I believe that war books are very interesting. Some war stories are so well written that I get carried away into them easily. The Things They Carried, sounds like a book I would like to pick up and start reading myself.

My favorite book is Twilight by Stephanie Myer. It's a romance between a human and a vampire. This book is my favorite because the way that the vampire Edward is described I couldn't help but fall in love with him. He seems so perfect and I think that's what captured me from the beginning. There are now 4 books in the series. I would recommend reading them all!

This summer i read a book called Blood Sucking Fiends. This book is about a lady, who had an ordinary life, was attacked, and turned into a vampire. She eventually finds a man, that she marries and ultimatly turns him too. This book, is a good book. Once you start reading, it is very hard to stop. It is like you are really in the book.

My favorite book is by far USMC: A Complete History. This book kicks some serious butt. You don't have to read a single word to respect it. The book is mammoth in size, over a foot tall and over six inches wide, and weighing in at least 10-15 lbs. The book is so big do to its full cover of the United States Marine Corps history, hence the title. The history goes all the way back to before the birth of my beloved corps on November 10, 1775. This book is filled with interesting stories and historical facts.

My favorite book was Frankenstein. We read it in Mr. Vassalotti's class. It was interesting how a human could interact with a monster. It was even more interesting that a human created a monster! This book was fun to read and kept my attention until the end.

My favorite book is The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. A remarkable book about a remarkable book and the people who use it to travel. I thought the book would be a little strange when i first picked it up but it seem to be quite interesting once I actually sat down to read it. I was surprised at the depth of the book and it had a lot of good comedy relief, most of which involved the search for a decent cup of tea and the sudden creation and demise of a bowl of petunias and a very surprised looking whale. It also involves some time travel and the destruction of earth. It also has a three book sequel to it that are supposed to be just as interesting. I strongly recommend this book to anyone looking for some good Science Fiction.

My Favorite book is Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk. The plot of this story was very different from any I've read. It was an interesting story and a little comical at times. The ending of Invisible Monsters is a surprise and totally unexpected! I've read another book my Chuck Palahniuk called Choke and enjoyed that as well, both the stories had a similar tone. Both Invisible Monsters and Choke were good books that i would recommend.

I have two favorite books. One would have to be "The Da Vinci Code" by Dan Brown. I can't reveal too much about it without ruining the book. It's a thriller that has so many twists you wouldn't expect. It kept me interested from beginning to end, and now i see certain things differently. My second favorite would be "Odd Thomas" by Dean Koontz. It's about a man named Thomas who lives as an ordinary fry cook but can see and interact with ghosts. They live with him and ask him for help with certain things. It is a very easy read that kept me entertained the whole 302 pages.

My favorite book is "Gangster" by Lorenzo Carcaterra. Its about a boy and his father that came from Italy to Manhatten to escape the mafia in 1900. But while his father was working day in and day out at the docks his son gets swept into the criminal underworld of organized crime and becomes one of New York's greatest crime bosses. The entire story was in great detail and something earthshattering happened every 15 pages.

my favorite book that i have read the whole way through is Hamlet. I read it in english last year. The first chapter i thought was boring. Then when i heard we were going to have a 100 point test on it i started to get my mind to like it. After the introductions of the characters were all made the action came. This is when i actually started reading it to see what happened. There are very few books that i have read that were better then the m ovie of it, all the movie versions were really bad though. I recomend this for all the kids that like books.

My favorite book is the seventh harry potter book. The book is called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. I love the Harry Potter series and i have read all the books. I like them because i think they are very interesting and they keep my attention very well. I think all the magic in the books are cool and it's neat to think of.

My favorite book is The Kite Runner. I had to read it last year for english class and I enjoyed it very much. I thought that it was a very interesting book and i could not put it down. It showed the hardships that people have to get through in life, such as war in our own country, that many of us have never expirenced. It was a very fun book to read and I would recomend it to anyone.

My favorite book is hatchet. I read it in sixth grade, but its still a good book. I like the adventure in the book. It has good survival information in it. Its interesting that brian only has a hatchet to survive. The best part about the book is when he dives down to get into the plane and drops his hatchet. It is so suspenfull! I liked it because i find the outdoors to be so intersting.I have to say that the sequal is also a good book. The book gives me a crazzy feeling to climb a mountian. dont you like the outdoors?

My favorite book is the Hobbit by J.R. Tolken. I really liked this book because in every chapter the hobbits encountered a new obsticale/ villain. They also found allies along the way to help them on their journey. My favorite character is probably Bilbo Baggins.I also thought the ending was good with the battle of 5 armies and how they drove the dragon out of the mountain, so the dwarfs could live there peacefully.

My favorite book is Holes. I've read it a few times and I still like it. I like it because i think its clever how the author kind of tells two different stories and they're both worked together in the end. It's much different then most books i've read which makes it really interesting too.

My favorate book is burned by Ellen Hopkins. Its about a girl who once had everything going well for her. She was very religious and had alot going for her, but then things become out of contol and she changes greatly when she meets love. Its a good book, and i read it in like 2 days!

I would have to say that one of my favorite books is The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult. It is about a girl who gets raped and no one believes her. Her father supports her and their relationship grows while he deals with his own problems. I guess I really like the father/daughter relationship and how Jodi Picoult shows that bond get stronger.

Last year for our 11th grade summer reading assignment, we had to read a book called The Kite Runner by Khalad Hosseini. There are not too many books that I have read in school that I've enjoyed. The book was so great. I loved the characters, especially Hassan. Hassan was a very strong character and he would do almost anything for his friend Amir. The story was so captivating that i had to see the movie. The movie was great as well!

i think that matt bednarik's book he said sounds like a really good one to me. it sounds like a type of book i will be into. "ganster" is a book i hope the libary has because i want it. i also agree with marco on saying that the kite runner is a fantastic book to read for the young and the old.Ryan Hatchet is a good book and if you go climb that mountain i would like to as well

Hayley,
In 6th grade i read the book holes too! I also enjoyed reading it. It kept my attention and kept me wanting to read more. I also like the fact that the book is telling two stories that relate to each other and in the end they come together, like you said. The book was interesting for me and it was a fun book to read.

Unknown said...

Wow Ryan I really liked Hatchet as well. I thought the best part was when he dropped his hatchet also. I like the outdoors too and I even climbed a mountain in New Hampshire once. It was great!!!! Does anyone else enjoy the outdoors? And Bill that Marine Corps book is massive? It would really be heavy standing up and holding the book while reading it. You would probably even need two hands to carry it! Is anyone else planning to join the USMC?

Unknown said...

Wow Andrew I thought Frankenstein was a great book as well. I wish i can create a monster. It would be even more intersting if that monster interacted with me. Would you like to create a monster? Leaping lizzards Dan I loved the Hobbit! I wish I was in that book it would be a great adventure. I liked the battle of the five armies part too. I loved how it was so descriptive. I think the dwarf king was my favorite charachter.Dan and Andrew have the best taste in books! Dont they?

Gina- burned sounds like a great book! Defiantly something I would enjoy reading. Would you suggest it for a certain reader? Sara! I love the Harry Potter series too! The seventh one was my favorite also it had such a twist at the end! I agree magic is a cool thing to think about isn't it? Could you imagine if you had magic? I would what I would do if I did.

Lauren,
The Kite Runner was a very good book. Once you start reading it, you can not stop. I cant wait to read the sister book by the same guy. He is a great Author.

Katie-
The DaVinci Code is also one of my favorites and the movie wasn't that bad despite what my brother said. Angels&Demons while full of intrigue and mystery did not have quite the depth of this book. The parts at the end were particularly interesting.

Anonymous said...

Hey Katie! Um not exactly. Anyone can read it. It does make you stop and think about how your life is. Its good, READ IT! Hayley, Holes is the best book! I love everything about it, even when they have to dig holes for being delinquents. Ya know?

Unknown said...

I think that The Kite Runner was also a great book and relate to everyone who said they could not put it down. I agree with Lauren it was one of the few books I've had to read for school that I really liked. I think that it is a good read for anyone! I would be really interested to read the book Gina was talking about, Burned, it seems like a book I might enjoy.I think i might also enjoy reading one of Katie's favorite books Odd Thomas it sounds interesting and like a fun read.

Hey Andrew-
I also enjoyed Frankenstein. I found it interesting how Mary Shelly showed the dichotomy of the potentials of natural human darkness and loss. It was very good, though a bit dated.

Also, can anyone tell me what the hack happened to my first comment? 'cause I didn't delete it.

Meghann-I have to totally agree with you on Edward. I read twilight and it is in my top five. The rest of the books are just as great and I would also recommend them to everybody. I am just sad that the series is over.
I saw some comments for The Kite Runner. It is a book that I have not read, but ya'll made it sound good. I can't wait to read it.

A book i get turned on by is Hamlet. Im not much of a reader but I enjoyed. Its a great story of tragedy and sadness. He unravels the question of whether Hamlets father was murder by Claudius. Its a good read and keeps you hooked. Of course in Dottores we didn't finish many books but what we got out of it was nice.

I pretty much have to go along with Ryan, Andrew and Dan. All of those are great books. In the Hobbit I liked the part where Bilbo was running around in the caves and he first met smeagol and got the ring. Hatchet I really enjoyed because of the outdoors. I thought about joining the USMC, but I thought about and would rather join the Navy. Ryan, I will climb that mountain with you

Sara I read one of the Harry Potter books when I was in the 4th or 5th grade and I gotta say I would rather watch Henry Fonda pick blueberries than read another one of J.K. Rowling's wizard books. For kids I suppose the tales can make up for a lack of imagination and/or intelligence. But seriously did she really need to make "Dumbledore" gay? For real? Its a kids book and there is no place for a homosexual character in children's book.

Matt i think i would like "Gangster" to. I think that books with lots of action keep my attention the best. A book about the mafia no doubt should have allot of action and gore in it. Also bill i want to see that 15 pound book man. i bet it really shows what the marines are like.

Unknown said...

Andrew, I agree that Frankenstein was a great book. It had a good plot. I really enjoyed the way it was written because it made me create a really neat mental picture of the scenes while I was reading it. Though I thought there was one thing it was missing...The Monster should have definitely iced more people and by "ice" I mean "brutally kill".

Unknown said...

The Hobbit and Holes...Two books that im bound not to read because of my strong hatred for Shia Labeouf and my motto about books. And that motto is "Don't judge a book by its cover...but by the short summary on the back."

Anonymous said...

Hey Andrew I agree with Ryan you do have good taste in books! I also liked frankenstein. I think that it is cool how a human created life from lifeless material. It was a very good book and always kept my attention. Hayley, I also liked the book Holes. It is one of my favorites books too. I also love the movie!

Dan,
I have to say that Hobbit sounds like a really good book from what you wrote. I like the books that have a lot of action and adventure and hobbit to me sounds like it has a lot of both. I might have to borrow that book for a while. Andrew i have to agree with you on Frankenstein. That book was filled with interesting scenes and wierd moments. I liked the part when Frankenstein got out of its home and ran free. I couldnt believe that the monster was so friendly to humans at first. I thought that was cool. It would be wierd if we could bring someone to life today like Frankenstein!

Hmmm, yeah, I also read The Kite Runner, and I enjoyed it, but I prefer the second work of the same author A Thousand Splendid Suns. Just as much turmoil in the characters described, as well as a constant stream of engrossing material that provides a ton of information on the ways of life in the Middle East, especially those concerning the less fortunate people who have had to endure Taliban rule. Very interesting.

As an aside, has anyone read The Life Of Pi?

Anonymous said...

Sara,

I also read that Harry Potter book! I loved it so much and I just couldn't put it down! I read it in like a week. What makes it so good is how well everything in the story is described, it makes it seem so real. I can't wait for another one to come out..
